Wagahai was Sōseki Natsume's pet cat.
- "Wagahai" comes from "Wagahai wa Neko de Aru" (吾輩は猫である), the Japanese title of the novel I Am a Cat by the real-life Sōseki Natsume. "Wagahai" itself is a very haughty first-person pronoun in Japanese, as the novel is a satirical story about Japanese society during the Meiji period written from the point of view of a supercilious house cat.
