Death, confusion, and resolve

Tobias Gregson found Everyday Mittlemont pretending to be a street vendor named "Hugh Boone" and began to use him by giving him his police ID and asking that he make a scene where he was directed to go to by proclaiming that the detective is here to investigate. In exchange, Gregson paid Mittlemont a lot of money, which allowed him to continue his ruse, this was all for Gregson to better hide his movements.

While Gregson sent Mittlemont out to be a decoy with the "Red-Headed League", a small-time scam of Maurice de Quilco and Marco di Gicho, he was given a “Death Bringer” mission for October 31st, aboard the S.S. Balabrock as it head for France. The target was Seishirou Jigoku, and the assassin sent with him was Kazuma Asōgi. Before he left his secret room to go there, he speaks fondly of Lestrade, and leaves her his "detective spirit". He knows that after his final mission, he will depart from this world.

While on board Balabrock, Gregson revealed the truth about Genshin's death to Kazuma. This cause Kazuma attack him, chipping his blade in the process. But then he decided to leave a that, disembarking in France to stay the night. But Jigoku didn't know Kazuma Asōgi was alive and had already decided to kill Gregson on his own to complete the assassination exchange program. When Jigoku returned to his room, he found Gregson there. He body slammed Gregson, knocking him unconscious, but as first class cabins are surrounded by guards, he decided to wait until the emergency drill later that evening to do the final deed. Unfortunately, just as that time arrived, Gregson woke up and started attacking Jigoku in a frenzy. In a moment of panic, Jigoku used the gun the English government had given him in his exchange program sixteen years ago and shot Gregson.

He took Gregson’s coat off and hid his body in the freezer, trying to buy some time and fake Gregson’s time of death. He then put Gregson’s body in his own suitcase and took him off the boat and to the hotel, as there was no chance to throw the body overboard due to all the guards.

Dead Gregoson

Tobias Gregson's death.

He had heard about Gregson’s secret room with Everyday Mittlemont from Hart Vortex, and went to drop the body off there. He set up some firecrackers he bought from Venus and used the candles as a makeshift timer that would go off when the body warmed up. That way, when Mittlemont came to visit, he could be framed. Unfortunately, Barok van Zieks showed up on his investigation of detective Gregson and he took the fall when de Quilco, di Gicho, and Mittlement arrived instead. Maria Goulloyne did the autopsy on him and she notice that the fish and chips in his stomach were moldy.

Personality

Tobias Gregson was a hard working detective who took pride in the Scotland Yard's name. As for being a devoted worker, he despised criminals and lawbreakers. Whenever he met with Ryūnosuke Naruhodō and his co., he spoke in distaste for the foreign attorney, but overall treated him as a citizen respectfully. However, because Naruhodō is foreign (or an attorney), he did not go out of his way to help them with an investigation with the exception of Iris Watson's presence. His favorite food is Fish and chips which is rarely ever seen without.
