Localization[]

Wikipedia has already decided to move their article to "Layton-kyōju VS Gyakuten Saiban" since it makes no sense to localize half the title. Should we do the same? Only dead fish go with the flow. 02:27, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Funnily enough, I'd actually checked the Wikipedia page with the same thought, realized what they'd done, and then moved this page, somehow missing your comment completely. In any case, I think that the half-localized title was due to the fact that "Professor Layton" is equivalent to "Layton-kyōju", while "Gyakuten Saiban" isn't quite equivalent to "Ace Attorney", the English name referring to the whole collection of games while the Japanese is referring only to Shu Takumi's games. capefeather 22:06, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Is page updated with recent news?[]

Hey, is this page updated with any info released in the August Nintendo Direct? New Seeker (talk) 10:39, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

What about the new cut-ins?[]

Well, as I have seen in plenty of Japanese gameplay of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, the cut-ins end up at the top of the screen with "Cross Examination" in between, which makes it harder to render out for articles. Thus, I'm not sure if, let's say, Jeeken's article would be fine without his cut-in picture. (This questions also applies to Phoenix Wright, Bartley, and Jordalla/Jodora). New Seeker (talk) 00:40, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

Miles Edgeworth[]

Doesn't Miles Edgeworth appear in this game? I could have sworn I have seen gameplay footage with him in it.

(OBVIOUS SPOILERS) Yeah, he does. He doesn't have much screentime though from what I have heard. CathalOHara (talk) 05:30, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

He only appears in the credits and the Special Episodes in the postgame. The latter, however, is non-canon, even with the game itself. There were originally plans to have Labyrinthian versions of him and Larry Butz, but this had to be scrapped. Dr Rank (talk) 23:16, November 23, 2017 (UTC)

(Spoilers is Spoilers) Can someone make anything of this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOD-iQaYxj8

English language names of chapters[]

The first two are "On a Dark and Stormy Night" and "English Turnabout"; the titles of the articles should be tweaked when we know all of them as well. NPChilla1 (talk) 15:48, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

New Items[]

Could we have pages set up for some if the important artifacts from this new series? Like the Talea Magica, for instance. Also, I've noticed on some pages that Talea Magica is named "Magic Staff" still. I'd change them myself, but I've had major problems in the past with people (mods specifically) on wikias insisting on the use of the Japanese name and changing it back, or pressing me for "evidence" despite the fact that the official translation is out, so I really don't like to be involved in these things anymore. If a mod were the one to make these changes, it'd be much less likely to be contested, and I know for a fact that my talk page entry will remain more strongly than any edits I may make. Regardless, I believe wikias should always be up to date, so I felt the need to post this here. LordSchmee (talk) 09:44, March 31, 2014 (UTC)

As far as I know, on this Wikia, we just update whatever we need to the official release. All Wikias *should* be doing that... in my opinion. - Spyromed (talk) 14:32, March 31, 2014 (UTC)

I 100% agree! But they tend to get ever so touchy when I bring it up. I think I had someone (a highly active member of the wiki, too) on the Assassin's Creed wiki go to straight up namecalling because I challenged him on something. It's just not something I like getting involved in anymore, but wanted to point out the Talea Magica thing 'cause I was just looking for it at that particular point in time. Was wondering if anyone'd added trivia to the page about how similar it is to the concept of Materia in Final Fantasy 7 or if it'd been discussed in the talk page, but I couldn't find the main page for it, unfortunately. Place in the timeline[]

Do we have any idea where this game goes?

It has to be any some point between the end of Justice for All (since Maya has no contact with Nick after the first game until the Ini Miney case) and when he loses his badge. So is this lawyer exchange happening before or after Trials and TribulationsNPChilla1 (talk) 17:58, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

I don't think it strictly goes anywhere. Virtually all crossovers are non-canon, for semi-obvious reasons. But it's definitely before he loses his badge, that much is obvious. CrashBash (talk) 18:25, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

There are some many references about Trials and Tribulations in this game, so I think it's after. Bryice31 (talk) 18:28, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

Do we have any word from official sources as to whether this game is canon or not (since the ending makes it compatible with the AA universe)? If it is canon, it would have to fit somewhere in the period between Bridge to the Turnabout (February 10) and Zak Gramarye's trial (April 19), but also taking into mind Maya and Wright's cameo appearances in the Edgeworth games (i.e., March 13 and April 6). So basically either mid-to-late February or mid-to-late March. - Strabo412 (talk) 11:42, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

I reckoned it to be in early December 2018, because in Recipe for Turnabout, Phoenix doesn't know about the Tres Bien case for an entire month, and Gumshoe failed to confront him during that time. Perhaps, I thought, because that's when Phoenix was in England for the crossover. But then I saw someone say that there's a reference to Hazakura Temple in the game, which he shouldn't know about until Feb. 2019. Can someone give me the exact quote and chapter that does this, so I have proof? After all, evidence is everything. BTW, I am considering the Special Episodes to be non-canon, since it is more of a "Behind the Scenes" look at the game than actual story. - Dr Rank (talk) 23:07, November 23, 2017 (UTC)
I don't have the quote (or even the game), but according to a post here, Maya mentions it if you examine the statues in the small room. Bluebully (talk) 23:21, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
Found it! It's in the chapter Secret of the Underground Ruins, and the quote is, "Hey! Check out all those statues! These sorta remind me of the statue of Ami Fey in the Hazakura Temple." However, it's Maya who says it, and there is no evidence to suggest that Phoenix recognises the name. And since it's an optional dialog box, its canonicity is questionable. Therefore, my December 2018 theory still stands. Specifically, I estimate that the game opens on the evening of December 4. - Dr Rank (talk) 03:30, November 23, 2017 (UTC)
The line may be optional but that still seems better to me than your argument, which is pure conjecture. The intro to Bridge heavily implies that Maya only had vague knowledge of the existence of Hazakura Temple, never mind actually visiting it, prior to reading the magazine issue, and of course Phoenix most likely hasn't heard of it at all. The line in Secrets of the Underground Ruins implies that Maya has physically been to the temple before. capefeather (talk) 01:16, November 24, 2017 (UTC)
Fair point, Capefeather. But then, what about the English climate? I've done my research, and January and February are the months when London is most likely to get any snow, yet not a single snowflake appears in the game. And before you point out that it could still be in March in that case, note that in the area after the Tower of Teller puzzles, Luke complains about how "chilly" the evening breeze is. And while nights can be cold any day of the year, they are coldest in the winter. Dr Rank (talk) 09:53, November 24, 2017 (UTC)
Also, how did the Ami Fey statue get back to Hazakura in the first place? Well, obviously, it was moved back there from Lordly Tailor by Adrian Andrews. And given that her Sacred Urn was put on display, Maya would certainly be informed of any relocations of the Fey Clan artefacts. Plus, she says the statues reminded her of Ami Fey's statue, not of Hazakura Temple itself. So, yeah. The reference could still be to a "future" episode. I mean, Pearl Fey predicted a Phoenix Wright impersonator, didn't she?Dr Rank (talk) 06:44, November 26, 2017 (UTC)

Now that I think about it...[]

For the English dubbing, did Capcom USA or EU ever get involved? New Seeker (talk) 10:21, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

Part of the series?[]

It's pretty obvious that this game is different from UMvC3 in its relationship to the "proper" Ace Attorney games. It's largely a text adventure game like the other games, and most of the mechanics of the other games carry over into this game. I haven't actually played this to know for sure, but would it be reasonable to just consider this the seventh entry of the "Ace Attorney series of text adventure video games", and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies the eighth? capefeather (talk) 02:41, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

Good job I'm British. It does play exactly like the Ace Attorney games when it's "that time" (when it's not playing like Professor Layton, in other words), but I'm personally still leaning towards it being a spin-off due to the nature of...well, the fact it is still a crossover. CrashBash (talk) 06:37, June 26, 2014 (UTC)
I think it's worth noting here that, Takumi and Hino stated themselves in Iwata asks, that they intended for the crossover  to not be a spin-off, but like it's the next installment in both series'...so...that's kinda something to consider...
I quote:
"Iwata: So you agree that this game can be played as the latest title in the Professor Layton series?
Hino: That’s right."
"Hino: I want to tell them that this is the real thing! With all due respect to everyone at Capcom, I consider myself Ace Attorney’s biggest fan, and I think this title is even more like Ace Attorney than the other titles. There’s no doubt in my mind that this game is the latest entry in that series too."
"Hino: Yes, I think so. This title is not a spin-off from either series. When we were working on the game, we always had the image in mind that it was a fusion of the two."

So How Does This Work?[]

So Due to the references in the Game, It appears to take place some time after Trials And Tribulations, And Before he looss his badge, so Early 2019. So how exactly does this work with the Professor Layton timeline? This would seem that Professor Layton Takes Place in The Late 2010s, However nearly Every aspect of the series is that of Victorian Britain... So How Exactly can this work... AzarathRaven (talk) 20:18, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Even with the exclusion of the obvious daft stuff like robots, the technology shown in the games (in terms of cars for example) is definitely after the Victorian era (1837-1901). The setting of the PL series seems to me to be more of a stereotype of contemporary England mashed with an Agatha Christie novel. But I will admit to having only played one of the games, so perhaps I'm missing something. - Strabo412 (talk) 18:48, August 4, 2014 (UTC)

Guilty Females[]

Do you think it should be worth mentioning that all the convicted criminals were female?Franzyfan1998 (talk) 22:55, April 10, 2016 (UTC)

Location capitalization[]

So since some of the location articles are being renamed for capitalization, I thought it was worth mentioning that I did have a system in mind for capitalization of these articles. It's basically just the fact that locations on the map in this game have flavour text associated with them, which often makes reference to other locations. I think some of the evidence flavour text does this, too, from what I remember. So if you look at what I wrote for the chapter articles, you'll see that I linked to some articles while using a different capitalization in display text (for example, "Bardly told them that Eve had evaded some knights at the [[Main Street|main street]].") I intended at some point after finishing the GK2 location articles to go through this game's location articles and rename stuff accordingly. (And then I lost motivation to finish the GK2 location articles...) Just in case anyone wanted to know. capefeather (talk) 02:10, July 29, 2019 (UTC)
