The book was smuggled out of Labyrinthia by Espella Cantabella, who took it with her when she went to Hershel Layton for help. Eventually, the book appears to pull Layton, Luke Triton, Phoenix Wright, and Maya Fey into its pages. However, this apparent magic is later revealed to be just an illusion, as the book's ink induces hallucinations in those who read it.
