Episode 4: Farewell, My Turnabout (which in the Italian language version is "Un Triste Addio", which translates to "A Sad Farewell") is the last episode in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All. This episode marks the return of Miles Edgeworth from abroad and features a special investigation mode in which Wright uses a frequency detector to sweep for bugs in the scene of the crime. A similar mode is featured in Bridge to the Turnabout. This episode also features the only time in which the trial ends in a guilty verdict. This episode marks the debut of Adrian Andrews, who reappears in The Stolen Turnabout.

[edit] Grand Prix

About four heroes, most notably the Jammin' Ninja, were lined up as nominees for the Hero of Heroes award ceremony. Just as the Jammin' Ninja was about to be named the winner, someone else dropped in with a dramatic entrance; it was the Nickel Samurai, successor to The Steel Samurai: Warrior of Neo Olde Tokyo and the Jammin' Ninja's biggest rival. With that entrance, the Nickel Samurai won the Grand Prix.

[edit] After the awards ceremony

Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey, and Pearl Fey were at the Viola Hall at the Gatewater Imperial Hotel, hearing the news that the Nickel Samurai had just won the awards. Will Powers, the man who played the Steel Samurai, was also at the hotel, really "proud of the guy for doing the series justice." After walking around for a short while, Powers gave the group tickets for a press conference that Matt Engarde, the actor of the Nickel Samurai, was supposed to hold after the post-ceremony show. Shortly after, Wright, Maya, Pearl, and Powers went to the lobby, only to learn from the P.A. that the post ceremony show had been canceled by the request of the police. Worried, the group started to move back towards Viola Hall, only to be stopped by the security guard, Wendy Oldbag. Wright, Maya, and Pearl managed to elude the guard and went towards Viola Hall. Upon entering Viola Hall, they were stopped by a bellboy, who told Maya that there was a call waiting for her at the front desk. She said she would catch up with Wright later, and left with the bellboy.

Going through the hallway, Wright heard two familiar voices and saw that Lotta Hart was trying to get information from Dick Gumshoe. When both noticed Wright was on the scene, they both attempted to pressure Wright into siding with them in their argument. In doing so, the detective let it slip that a murder had taken place. Satisfied, the investigative photographer ran away in delight, spreading the news. After the detective hung his head, he informed Wright of the events that had transpired.

[edit] The crime

The murder victim was Juan Corrida, the actor of the Jammin' Ninja in the television show of the same name. The estimated time of death was 8:15, right after the awards ceremony. Gumshoe didn't say any more, but he told the two that Matt Engarde was arrested on suspicion of murdering Corrida.

[edit] A kidnapping

Wright and Pearl returned to the lobby, where a distressed Powers was waiting for them. Wright told him the details: that Juan Corrida was murdered, and Matt Engarde was the suspect. Powers groaned, commenting on how these events were just like last year. He then gave a radio transceiver to Wright, telling him that a bellboy said it was for the attorney. Pearl was starting to wonder where Maya had gone; it was a long time since she had gone to answer the telephone. At that moment, the transceiver rang. Wright asked who the man on the other end was, but was told that he should be worried about more important things. At that moment, Maya's scream rang through the radio, yelling for help from Wright. The caller threatened to kill her if Wright refused to cooperate.

???
What is this called again in your fancy lawyer terms?

Phoenix Wright
..."Kidnapping for ransom"...

After regaining his composure, Wright immediately asked "H-How much!?" The kidnapper congratulated Wright on his grasp of the situation, but then told him that wanted not money, but an acquittal for Matt Engarde. The kidnapper went on to say that Matt Engarde had killed no one, but someone was framing him. The kidnapper told Wright that the trial would take place in two days, and Wright must procure an acquittal for Matt Engarde on that day, or Maya would die. In one last act of desperation, Wright asked who this person on the other end was.

???
Alright, I'll tell you that much. My name is... De Killer.

The call was then disconnected.

Powers immediately suggested that Wright tell the police, but Wright knew that if something of the sort happened, Maya would die. Pearl then asked if they could trust Detective Gumshoe. Agreeing, Wright ran back to the hallway to inform the detective of the situation. The detective subsequently offered his help, but told Wright he would probably be in the hotel for the rest of the night. Gumshoe, however, managed to get authority to let Wright and Pearl go, and held Pearl's hand all the way to the Wright and Co. Law Offices.

  • Good ending

If Wright presents the video tape to Shelly De Killer, De Killer will realize that the tape depicts him killing Juan Corrida. Engarde had placed a spy camera in a huge stuffed bear's eye to film De Killer at 8:00 PM, the time he had told De Killer to kill Corrida. Engarde could use the video to blackmail De Killer. De Killer, realizing this, breaks his contract with Engarde and decides to go after him, for he broke the trust between the assassin and the client. The judge lets Wright decide whether Engarde is guilty or innocent. Either way, Engarde screams that he is guilty, scratching new scars into his face.

Phoenix heads back to the Defendant lobby and finds Maya there. Maya, Pearl, and Phoenix embrace. Franziska von Karma then enters the room and tells Wright that his perfect win record is soiled. He tells von Karma that being a defence lawyer is more than just having a perfect record. Von Karma storms out, leaving her whip and her Gumshoe tracker behind. Edgeworth enters, and Phoenix gives him the whip. Maya then declares that she is starving, so the group goes to dinner in the Viola Hall. They have a discussion about the trial and, after some urging, Phoenix Wright says his catchphrase one last time.

Objection!

The game then cuts to the credits.

  • Bad ending

Achieved when the player either presents any evidence but the video tape to anyone but Shelly de Killer and says anything but "He wanted to blackmail you."

The game cuts to a closing speech delivered by Phoenix, in which he says that after the case he fled the courtroom and wandered the streets. He says he later heard that Adrian Andrews was charged with murder and that he never saw Maya again, but was sure that Shelly de Killer released her because "After all, he is a man of his word."

During the credits, Phoenix meets with all the people he met during the course of the game. Maggey Byrde tell him how she will become a waitress, and the members of the Berry Big Circus tell Phoenix about how they will tour the world.

[edit] After Credits

After the credits, Edgeworth meets von Karma at the airport. He tells her she will be a prosecutor no matter what, and gives her the whip. von Karma tells Edgeworth that she was never a genius, which she knew. However, she goes on to say that Edgeworth had always left her behind. Therefore, her revenge would be to defeat Wright in court and thus be better than Edgeworth. Edgeworth tells her if she quits prosecuting, the two will part ways. von Karma begins to cry, and, through tears, tells Edgeworth she will not be left behind. She still goes on the airplane, but says that she will deliver the forth piece of evidence to Wright, when they meet again.

The last piece is revealed to be a drawing that Maya drew while imprisoned - a picture of Wright drawn on one of de Killer's shell cards, with the word "Nick" on it.

[edit] Notes

  • This is the first time in the Ace Attorney series that the player is able to control another character. Maya is briefly controlled at the end of each chapter.
